For Me,

some things are incommensurable with each other in the sense of not being translatable one into another, such as religions, scientific paradigms, political views, faith, even our feelings. They are untranslatable one into another as poems in one language are untranslatable into another, or if it does, it’ll more or less change what the writer was trying to deliver through them.

*incommensurable is a word taken from geometry, where it refers to the fact that, for instance, the radius of a circle is not a ‘rational’ fraction of its circumference, but is somewhat related to it by the irrational number phi. Nevertheless, when we calculate the value of phi, the result is never complete but always leaves us a ‘remainder’ (Kuhn, in Roosenberg)
